Pig Club holds Annual Supper at the Bruce’s Arms
The annual supper in connection with the Easton and Milton Pig Club was held on the 1st January at the Bruce’s Arms when about 60 members and friends sat down to an excellent spread prepared by Mr A Howse.
After justice had been done to the good things provided and the usual toast had been responded to, the Secretary presented his report which showed a balance in hand of £16 5s 7d. This was considered very satisfactory and as several new Honorary Members were forthcoming, the prospects for another season are very good. The report was passed with a vote of thanks to the Secretary for the manner in which he had presented it. Business being over, songs were contributed by Messrs Gough, Williams, Deadman, Brooks and others. Mr Trowbridge proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Wells for presiding who responded and called for three cheers for Mr and Mrs Howse for the excellent way they had prepared the supper. These were heartily given and the National Anthem brought a pleasant evening to a close.

Whist Tournament
A successful and pleasant whist tournament was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening last in aid of funds for the cricket club. In spite of illness which prevented many from being present, about 50 members of various whist clubs attended and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent.
The Vicar who presented the prizes in the absence of Mrs Kemm through illness, referred to the pleasure it gave to members of Easton Whist Club to see so many of their friends present and thanked them for coming out on such a cold night. Mr Bradley and Mr Kunkler responded for the visitors in a few appropriate words. Refreshments were provided gratis and most suitable arrangements were made for the comfort and convenience of the guests.
The utmost credit is due to Mr and Mrs Trowbridge, to the secretary Mr Frank Goddard and others of the committee for the way in which they organised the entertainment and provided such a social and pleasant evening’s amusement.

A Veteran’s Birthday
On Tuesday last, Mr J T Powell who has spent the past 60 years in this village at Easton Farm, celebrated his 85th birthday amid hearty congratulation and cordial good wishes from friends near and far. At 8.30 p.m. the bells of the parish church rang a merry peal, the union jack was hoisted and in the morning the schoolchildren cheered lustily, wishing Mr Powell much happiness and many more birthdays among them all.
Telegrams, parcels and letters of congratulation arrived during the day. The letter which Mr Powell valued most was one from the Marquis of Ailesbury, on whose estate he had been tenant for 63 years. “Would there were more such landlords!”. The festive occasion culminated by a friendly gathering, where various toasts were enthusiastically drunk and responded to, especially that of ‘long life and continued good health to that keen and genial sportsman and friend, Mr J T Powell. God bless him.’

Easton School Treat
The annual children’s party was held in the schoolroom on Friday 6th inst. The children to the number of 50 to 60 sat down to a most sumptuous tea, generously provided by the parishioners. After tea a variety of games were indulged in, which proved much amusement and which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. A number of willing helpers did their utmost to sustain the happiness of the evening and that they succeeded was shown in the bright happy faces around them. The Vicar, Rev T Kemm, spoke of the changes which had taken place since the last school treat and thanked the donors for their liberal support. Then oranges, buns and sweets were distributed, and when the loyal anthem was sung, all were homeward bound having spent a most enjoyable and pleasant evening.
